The skilled therapists at UPMC Kane Rehabilitation Services work with you to help regain your functional independence following surgery, an injury, or other circumstances, providing care each step of the way — from preoperative and inpatient care to home and outpatient care. 

Our therapists treat patients of all ages and functional levels. At every step of treatment, patients are provided with education regarding their condition and are encouraged to participate in developing their goals.

Physical and speech therapy, as well as additional treatment options, can help you to regain independence in meaningful daily activities, including work, leisure, and self-care.

Physical Therapy

If you have recently had surgery, suffered from a sports-related injury, or live with another disorder, our physical therapy (PT) program is here for you. Our physical therapists use hands-on treatment techniques to let you regain or maintain your independence.

PT focuses on several rehabilitation techniques, including:

• Gross motor skills
• Transfers
• Stairs
• Gait training with and without an assistive device
• Endurance and balance training
• Other impairments of the upper and lower extremities and spine

Speech Therapy

Our speech and language pathologist provides therapeutic intervention and muscle strengthening for adults with speech and language impairments .

Speech therapy can also help those with:

• Swallowing difficulties
• Cognitive and memory deficits
• Paralysis of the face
• Head and/or neck trauma
• Cancer
